A Week with the Johnson Family | Documentary Family Photography in Anchorage

Drag me!

It’s not too often that dear friends will invite you to their home a thousand miles away from your own, let you sleep in their house for a week, and let you hang out to see what summer in Anchorage is all about.  The Johnson family holds an incredibly special place in my heart, and not only did I convince them to sit down for some posed family portraits, but I was able to document a bit of daily life to go along with it.  (Dad had to be at work most of the days of our adventures, so if you feel like he’s not in too many frames, it’s because he didn’t get an awesome chance to hang out as much!)

Photographed exclusively with a Hasselblad 501C medium format film camera and Hasselblad X-Pan 35mm panoramic film camera.

ready to tell your story?

Hi, I’m alex! A seattle wedding photographer who’s been documenting your stories since 2009.

I fell in love with photography almost 20 years ago in a darkroom class, and that love has never faded. What started as a darkroom class in college turned into photographing my first wedding solo in 2010,and I was hooked. The joy. The emotion. The vows. The details. The people.

I realized quickly that my fulfillment came from helping people see themselves in a beautiful, honest way. I move calmly. I guide confidently. I know how to capture all the angles and candid moments without you even noticing. My couples often say I have “photo superpowers” because of how much I capture while still keeping everything feeling easy and low-pressure.

Some photographers find wedding days chaotic.

I find them electric.
