Candid Golden Hour Family Portraits at Richmond Beach

Drag me!

When wedding season starts to wane, family photo season kicks into high gear. I’ve been photographing weddings since 2009, and some of the clients I’ve worked with since my earlier photography years have become important friends. A big bonus to those friendships that have bloomed is that I get to meet my clients’ kiddos and new family members (the four legged AND human kinds). Getting a chance to document families as they grow together over the years is quite a treat. I used to get a little bored during family photography season, but not anymore. It is entirely too much fun to play, giggle and cuddle – important moments to document, too.

This family is one of my favorites, and since we captured this photo session they added another little guy to their family. Mom and I think about a creative place for their family photos each year so that they enjoy adventuring a bit along with taking advantage of a beautiful location close to home. This particular session was on a surprisingly warm day for being so late in the summer, but it sure was gorgeous. There was a little lingering smoke in the air from recent forest fires, which is what gave our sky the red glow. On our way up the hill from taking these photos we could see orcas from shore, too!

At family photo sessions I encourage kids to be themselves. If they need a chance for a break so they can go explore the driftwood fort that someone else built on the beach we’re going to take that break and capitalize on it when childhood wonder and joy take over again.

Every year as the summer gets close to fall I find myself out and about for family portraits several days a week. It’s never too early to get something planned in my book. Reach out to me with the time frame you’d like to target for your photos and we’ll bookmark a couple options on the calendar so that you know you’ve got prime time reserved for you as family photo season kicks into high gear.

ready to tell your story?

Hi, I’m alex! A seattle wedding photographer who’s been documenting your stories since 2009.

I fell in love with photography almost 20 years ago in a darkroom class, and that love has never faded. What started as a darkroom class in college turned into photographing my first wedding solo in 2010,and I was hooked. The joy. The emotion. The vows. The details. The people.

I realized quickly that my fulfillment came from helping people see themselves in a beautiful, honest way. I move calmly. I guide confidently. I know how to capture all the angles and candid moments without you even noticing. My couples often say I have “photo superpowers” because of how much I capture while still keeping everything feeling easy and low-pressure.

Some photographers find wedding days chaotic.

I find them electric.
