It's always an incredibly humbling moment when a dear friend inquires about their wedding photography. When Catherine first got engaged, I was of course over the moon for her, but then we she asked me a short time later if I would be interested in being her wedding photographer it was awfully hard to contain my excitement. Catherine & I have known each other since the first day of high school, when we both wound up in the flute section in band. Thanks to the logistics of high school band classes ensuring that you have class with the same people where you also have the exact same seat assignment every day for three years, Catherine and I (and the rest of the flautists) got to know each other pretty well. Catherine is one of the most driven, hard working people I've ever met. So when she got engaged and got to start planning her wedding I knew that she would put together an affair that was memorable in every way.
Catherine & Allan chose Seattle's Museum of History and Industry for their elegant wedding in Seattle. MOHAI gets overlooked as an amazing wedding venue and I loved working in this space to capture Catherine & Allan's wedding photographs. MOHAI offers a perfect terrace with tented canopies to shade guests on sunny days, and the vintage ships and South Lake Union in the background make for a perfect ceremony location that needs no further decoration. Once inside MOHAI for the reception, the neon signs, bright colors, and Seattle history that's literally hanging from the ceiling, create a fun and vibrant atmosphere. While the wedding party's style was refined, light, and soft in tone, the reception was action packed and energetic - including one of the best wedding dance parties I've ever seen!
It is such a special treat to photograph someone's wedding that is so close to you and it was made that much more special by the styling and event decisions that Catherine & Allan made in bringing their wedding day vision to life. I hope I get to return to the Museum of History and Industry for another wedding in downtown Seattle soon!
